Sustainable storage of waste in Zeeland
Indaver ensures waste is stored as sustainably as possible. The North and Central Zeeland landfill site (30 ha) has a base liner to prevent rainwater from seeping through the waste into the ground water. Drainage systems remove the leachate (wastewater). A water purification facility then cleans the leachate after which Indaver can discharge it responsibly into the surface water.
Landfill site is a source of green energy
Due to the amount and diversity of waste in a landfill site the organic material starts to ferment spontaneously. Indaver extracts the biogas (methane) that is created through gas shafts and pipelines. We then convert this into green electricity.
