Sustainable energy from organic material

VGF and green waste are interesting residual waste streams when it comes to generating sustainable energy. Indaver upgrades woody material to biomass. Biomass stations then convert this biomass into green energy and hereby avoid the use of fossil fuels. 

The wet elements are perfect for fermentation. This produces biogas. Indaver upgrades biogas to natural gas quality for supply to the natural gas network. We also convert biogas into electricity.

Biowaste is therefore a source of sustainable energy and a good alternative to fossil fuels. 

Composting facilities, fermentation facilities and biomass processing facilities

Each business produces its own particular type of residual biowaste, ranging from chicken dung to green waste, from industrial food waste to hedge trimmings. Indaver strives to apply the most sustainable treatment according to the type of organic material. We have composting, fermentation and biomass treatment facilities.

Bio Power, Indaver's innovative fermentation facility in Alphen aan den Rijn, is a beautiful example of how to make good use of wet, organic residual waste streams.

Annually, this facility can convert 75,000 tons of GFT waste into compost, green gas and liquid CO2 (for the greenhouse horticulture industry). With this, Indaver is closing another part of the waste loop.

On-site fermentation facilities

Indaver develops on-site fermentation systems in partnership with companies in the food processing Industry. One example is EcoFuels in Well (Limburg). Together with Laarakker Groenteverwerking Indaver Bio Energy set up a factory in 2006 to treat liquid residual waste streams with a low dry product content to produce biogas.

With these sorts of bespoke solutions we are bringing the treatment to the location of a large and constant supply of residual biowaste. The advantages are clear:

  • no waste transport costs for the residual waste stream
  • sustainable generation of energy that either goes back into the business or is used by third parties.

Recovery of Landfill Gas

In landfill sites the organic material in the main body of the landfill ferments spontaneously. We extract the biogas (methane) through gas shafts and pipelines. Then we convert it into sustainable energy.
